Highly Recommend
“A very enjoyable read. The main character quickly becomes someone you want to root for. Although, physically, I’m very different from Victoria, I’ve been through some of the struggles she endures in this story. A testament to God’s power to make something good out of bad circumstances and events.”

A Heartfelt Journey
“THE FIRST LAST CONCERT is a beautifully written and emotionally rich story that captures the power of music, love, and second chances. The author paints every scene with deep emotion, making you feel the character’s struggles and triumphs as if they were your own. The blend of passion, heartbreak, and hope makes this book a heartfelt journey. It’s one of those stories that lingers in your heart long after the final page. A truly inspiring and soulful read.”

Inspiring and Uplifting
Dee Lorraine’s novel mixes faith, politics, and trauma in a way that feels uncomfortably real. Victoria, a young Black writer back in Brooklyn, nabs a speech-writing job for a U.S. senator—and the gig curdles fast: family grief, campaign rot, and sexual abuse push her toward a breaking point.
The story opens in New York and widens to Paris and Kuala Lumpur, where Victoria is ordered to interview Zechariah bin Shukri, a Malaysian composer whose own demons and guarded faith mirror hers. The cross-continental arc gives the book scale without losing the personal stakes.
What works is the tension between belief and survival. Lorraine keeps the focus on conscience—what forgiveness costs, when to speak, when to run—and lets the thriller beats serve that core. It’s contemporary Christian fiction that isn’t tidy, which is exactly why it sticks.
